Automation Developer – Definition and Scope

What is an Automation Developer? What is the scope of an automation developer? To know more about these, just keep on reading the article until the end.

What is an Automation Developer?

Automation is a method for performing a task without human intervention. For example, elevators are automated to respond to voice commands. They can also be automated with buttons or by tapping on a screen.

Moreover, an automation developer uses programming languages to create programs that are used to control hardware and software. They write code with the use of computer chips, software applications, sensors, and other devices.

A developer can work in various sectors depending on the skill level they have acquired. There are four main sectors in which they can specialize:

  • Business Analysis (a developer with this skill will be able to analyze the business requirements, specifications, and design)
  • Software Development (a developer with this skill will be able to create an application that will run on hardware or software)
  • Systems Development (a developer with this skill will be able to create a software or hardware solution for clients)
  • Database design (a developer with this skill will be able to design databases for clients)

What Is the Scope of an Automation Developer?

Automation development can be done in various fields like manufacturing, medical, oil, and gas, energy, media, science, and technology. Let’s go into details for each of the fields.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing automation means automating the manufacturing process. Also, manufacturing processes can be automated by using computer programs, robots, CNC machines, etc. For example, if you are working with a manufacturing company to automate its production line processes, you would be doing it with the help of some specialized software.

Medical

Automation in healthcare is about using some sort of technology to assist doctors in providing patients with better care. For example, an automated medication dispenser is used to dispense medications for patients which are done by the use of a touch screen system. Automated medical devices can provide doctors with data that they can use to help them perform their tasks

better. For example, an automated ECG analyzer can provide doctors with electrocardiogram readings to help them diagnose heart conditions.

Oil and Gas

Oil and gas automation is about automating oil and gas processes like drilling, production, etc. For example, if you are working with an oil company to automate its drilling processes, you would be using some advanced software to control the equipment used in the process. The software would be installed in the computer system of the equipment. Oil and gas automation also includes automating other processes like controlling pipelines.

Energy

Energy is another sector that automation developers can work in. Also, energy automation involves automating processes regarding energy such as controlling power grids, smart meters, etc. For example, if you are working with an energy company to control its power grid processes, you would be using some software to control the equipment used in the process.

Media, Science, and Technology

Automation within these sectors involves automating processes that are related to media, science, and technology. For example, if you are working with a manufacturing company to automate its production line processes, you would be using some specialized software.
